Rev. Newell D. Smith was born in Syracuse, New York, and raised in the Church of the Nazarene. Newell graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in 1969, and received a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1972.  Rev. Smith began his full time ministry experience on staff with Rev. Tom Nees at Washington, D.C., First Church of the Nazarene in 1973. He then pastored the Syracuse (NY) First Church of the Nazarene for ten years, followed by 15½ years at Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Columbus, Ohio. Since January 2000, he has been the District Superintendent of the Philadelphia District Church of the Nazarene, which encompasses eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.  Rev. Smith serves on the Board of Trustees at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, and the Board of Front Step, Inc., a compassionate ministry center serving urban Philadelphia. He loves pastoring pastors, offering training, equipping, and encouragement. He is a strong believer in relational evangelism as is evidenced by a Neighborhood Bible Study he has been leading for the past 15 years.  Newell has been married to Anne since 1969. She works as his Administrative Assistant for the Philadelphia District. They are the parents of two grown children and the grandparents of seven grandchildren.
